We will have raw, washed, processed fleece from sheep, llamas, alpacas, angora rabbits..., silk, handspun yarn, mill spun yarn, hand dyed roving and yarn, finished goods such as woven rugs, garments, gift items, folk art cards, needle felted sheep and much more. Stay tuned!

We had gorgeous weather today. The crowds were good and lots of fun. The wool tent is full of fabulous stuff. Come out and play!

2010 Wool Festival

I saw several (Falmouth) Wool Tent vendors set up at the new (Lexington) Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival in May. Very fun!

Even though it seems like a long time away, it's time to be gearing up for the fall festival. We are going to have a crowded tent this year. Very exciting!

Thanks to Tonya Fedders of Flat Creek Wool and Pottery, we have beautiful artwork to help promote the Falmouth Wool Festival this year. Very cool!

Trunk Show

In an effort to force us to completely finish the wool house, Punkin's Patch has decided to have an open house. And because we missed seeing Flat Creek Wool and Pottery at the wool festival (and getting all our Christmas shopping out of the way in one fell swoop ;-) we are making Tonya come set up a trunk show for us everyone.

We can't wait for our Ewenice to meet her Ewenice (the character on her mugs, yarn bowls, vases, bowls...).

Not only will Miss Ewenice be there - she loves a good party - but so will Ewen McTeagle, Buddy, Boudreaux, Woolliam, Petunia, Keebler, Graham Lamb, Iris, Weaslie and even Hank. I doubt we'll see much of Claire Bear and Eli, but you can be sure that Brushy and Comby will come looking for some attention...and snacks.

So bring your spinning wheel, your knitting, rug hooking, felting...or just your good company. The festivities will run from 1:00 to 4:00 on Saturday, November 7th. Please drop the crazy sheep lady an email to get directions to the farm.

Kim's Yummy Cheese Ball Recipe

2 – 8 oz packages of cream cheese, softened

1 small can crushed pineapple, drained really well

1 tsp seasoned salt

2 tbsp finely minced onion

¼ cup finely chopped green bell pepper (optional – mine didn’t have the pepper)

2 cups chopped pecans

Mix together cream cheese, pineapple, seasoned salt, onion and pepper with 1 cup of the chopped pecans. Shape into ball(s) and roll in remaining 1 cup of pecans to cover. It makes two small or one large.

Serve with crackers.

How's The Weather Looking?

According to weather.com as of Wednesday 10:30 p.m. it's looking like showers on Friday, but dry for Saturday and Sunday.

Traffic Troubles

The one thing (well, besides the weather) the we have no control over at the Wool Festival is the traffic. The number of people coming in and out is staggering - a large five figure number! Here are a couple things I can recommend:

Try to avoid the peak times. Okay, so when would that be? The biggest complaints I heard last year was mid to late afternoon. Come early.

Shuttles. Here is the information off the main festival website. "Park your vehicle at Pendleton County High School on U.S. 27 or hop on board a shuttle bus at the Pendleton County Library on Main Street, downtown Falmouth. Shuttle buses will be running between the Pendleton County High/Pendleton County Public Library every 1/2 hour!

The shuttle bus saves you time parking your vehicle and really gets you there faster with no hassles. Shuttle buses will be running every half-hour starting at 10 a.m. Saturday morning and finishing at 10 p.m. On Sunday the shuttle starts at 10 a.m. and runs until the Festival closes at 6 p.m. The shuttle ride is free and it drops you off right at the festival grounds."

Demonstrations In The Wool Tent

Demonstrating spinning with bottle lamb Keebler during a spring festival in my hometown. Boy what I wouldn't give for Keebs to be that small again...although I'm getting a lot more sleep now ;-).

Friday, the first day of the festival, all the sheep and wool vendors demonstrate something to do with their, or should I say our, crafts. We have spinning wheels, several different weaving looms, drop spindles, drum carders, wool combs, needle felting, color blending...

How about everyone who's online jump in and tell a little about what they plan to demonstrate. And for readers who have found this blog - we're trying to get the word out, so pass it along :-) - jump in and tell us what you'd like to see.

Also, while several of our vendors don't have a website and aren't familiar with blogging and commenting, many of us do. I'm working to update the previous post to include links to their sites.

Who's Coming To The Kentucky Wool Festival?

While not a true wool festival (long story), the Kentucky Wool Festival is a fun weekend destination in a beautiful spot of northern Kentucky and at a fabulous time of the year. This is primarily a craft festival, but we do have one whole 100' tent full of sheep and wool vendors and demonstrations this year. There are three other large tents and various outdoor craft vendors as well and the festival food can't be beat. Something for everyone ;-).

As the organizer of the sheep and wool tent, I am happy to promote the following vendors that are signed up for 2009. We may be few, but we are all bringing some really nice fiber and fiber gifts. Come check us out!

And if you have any questions, please send them to me or a vendor listed below. We are sorry the main festival folks are not responding to questions :-/. Hopefully this blog will help.
